Steps taken to continue on inclusive path

The Greater Hartford Association of REALTORS® (GHAR), the second largest real estate association in New England, recently issued an acknowledgment letter for past discriminatory practices and policies. GHAR is determined to ensure the social and equitable growth of the organization.

“This acknowledgement allows us to move forward with the understanding of our history of oppression. We cannot change the past, but we will continue to evolve our organization by developing inclusive, forward thinking programs and resources,” states Holly Callanan, GHAR CEO.

In 2020, GHAR partnered with the Calling All Allies Project and Dr. Brandi Baldwin to facilitate the new GHAR initiative to guide our association's path to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion. An audit was conducted to develop near and long-term strategies to ensure inclusivity and understanding in order to create a supportive environment for both our staff and members.

Among other initiatives, the association recently formed an Equity Committee, with the purpose of Identify the concerns and needs of historically excluded members and develop actions to address those concerns and needs. GHAR is committed to moving forward with equity objectives top of mind.
